Christianity 101

If you've landed on this page it is probably because you have questions about, God, Jesus, the Bible, the meaning of life, why do good people suffer and a myriad of other questions.

We are ready and willing to have open ended conversations with you and try to answer your questions to the best of our ability

Here are some things that you need to know.

We believe that the Bible is the book that God uses to communicate His will to His people. One of the books in the Bible is the book of Romans which contains a road map to salvation.

  • No one is without sin - Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”

  • There is a consequence to sin - Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus His son."

  • Christ offered Himself as payment for our sins - Romans 5:8 " but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

  • To access His love we must repent and believe - Romans 10:9-10 " because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved."

  • The result of salvation is acceptance - Romans 8:1 " There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus."

  • Feeling peace - Romans 5:1 " Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

To have a relationship with God all you need to do is say something like this to God:

"Lord Jesus, for too long I’ve kept you out of my life. I know that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. No longer will I close the door when I hear you knocking. By faith I gratefully receive your gift of salvation. I am ready to trust you as my Lord and Savior. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for coming to earth. I believe you are the Son of God who died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead on the third day. Thank you for bearing my sins and giving me the gift of eternal life. I believe your words are true. Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen."

If you've prayed this prayer, now what?

Here are some next steps and things you should know.

Now begins an exciting journey of discovery as you find your identity in Christ. Now you get to grow as a Christ follower.

The first thing you need to know is that God has been speaking for centuries and the Bible is actually a collection of books written by human authors who were inspired by the Holy Spirt over the course of several hundred years.

The Bible tells us that once we make our decision to live for Christ, we can be assured that, if we follow Him and live for Him, we will have a place in heaven. Heaven is a paradise where nothing bad or unclean will be allowed to enter, but our place will be secure.

As mentioned before the Bible is our instruction manual for living as a Christ follower. There are 66 books in the Bible written by over 40 authors who heard from God. It is divided into two parts, the Old Testament, and the New Testament.

Prayer – talking with God.

Jesus came to model every phase of the Christian life. One of the things He modeled for us is the relationship that He and the Father have.

Why go to church?

Most people think of church as a place of rules, religion, and judgmental people. Who wants to be a part of that?

Well, God designed the church to be a place of spiritual healing, encouragement, learning, and growth. Spending time with other Christians can help you make sense of how God works in our lives and the world. They can encourage you when you struggle with daily life.

Baptism – an outward expression of an inward change.

Now that you have become a Christ follower you want to acknowledge that in a public way. Baptism is an important step of obedience.

Becoming more like Jesus.

Living as a Christian is not a matter of do’s and don’ts. It is not about being so good that God will love you. However, we should show God that we love Him by the way we live.
